For two names on one stool, 7 letters in total. The names run together with no space between them, and the first letter of each is capitalised — MiaKate, for example.
That is the short answer. Here is what it means in practice.
Why a longer name makes a longer stool
The letters set the width of the top, so the stool grows with the name. Height and width stay fixed at 8 inches. Length runs between 13 and 15.75 inches depending on how many letters there are.
A three-letter name and a ten-letter name produce stools of noticeably different lengths. Both work the same way. It is worth knowing if you are measuring a space.
What fits comfortably
Most first names fit without difficulty. Twelve characters covers the large majority of children's names, including the longer ones — Alexandria is ten, Christopher is eleven.
If a name runs longer than twelve letters, the usual answers are a shortened form or the name the child actually goes by, which is often what people choose anyway.
Two names on one stool
This is the most common question we get, usually from people buying for twins or wanting to include a middle name.
It works, within the 7-letter limit. MiaKate is seven. AvaRose is seven. So is LeoJack. The limit is tighter than people expect, because two names need two capitals and enough width for both to read clearly at this size.
If both names are longer than that, two separate stools is the honest answer — and for twins it is usually the better one anyway, because each child gets their own.
Check the spelling before you order
Each stool is painted with a specific child's name, which means personalised items are not returnable or refundable. Spelling is taken exactly as entered at checkout.
This catches people out with names that have a common alternative spelling — Sophia and Sofia, Aiden and Aidan, Catherine and Katherine. Read it twice before you confirm.
